Liz Scrine

I am a potter and I have been associated with the Manchester Craft and Design Centre a long time. I moved into studio 4 in 1990 when it was just becoming a co-operative and moved out again sixteen years later in 2006 as I was working on a lot of bigger commissions and needed more space. But I have never managed to quite leave! I work mostly from home now but I still display and sell my work in a corner of Lee Page Hanson’s studio – studio 4 – and I am in one Saturday a month if you would like to pop in and see me.

I still like handbuilding and experimenting with glazes on fragments but I am probably best known for the passage light series. These are architectural lightboxes which evolved out of the small hidden artwork called Mr Smith’s Dream on Copperas Street, set into the wall on the outside of the building. Ancient architecture and artifacts from old and exotic cultures continue to be a source of inspiration.
