Liz Scrine

I am a potter, and I have been associated with the Manchester Craft and Design Centre for a long time. I moved into Studio 4 in 1990, when the craft centre was just becoming a co-operative, and moved out again in 2006, sixteen years later, as I was working on a lot of larger commissions and needed more space. But I have never managed to quite leave! I work mostly from home now, but I still display and sell my work in a corner of Lee Page Hanson‘s studio – Studio 4 – and I am in one Saturday a month if you would like to pop in and see me.

I still like handbuilding and experimenting with glazes on fragments, but I am probably best known for the Passage Light series. These are architectural lightboxes which evolved out of the small hidden artwork called Mr Smith’s Dream on Copperas Street, set into the wall on the outside of the building. Ancient architecture and artifacts from old and exotic cultures continue to be a source of inspiration.
