COLLECT ART FAIR
The leading international fair for contemporary craft and design
1 – 3 March, Somerset House, London

Showcasing new work by contemporary pewtersmith Ella McIntosh.

Ella pushes the boundaries and limits of traditional pewter casting methods to create large complex slabs of pewter with repeated texture or design directly inspired by her Northern landscape of Lancashire and Manchester. She then uses the cast pewter panels to ‘construct’ her designs utilising the repeated action of the castings combined with highly polished sheet metal to create an abundance of texture and layers of visual effect in her objects.

Driven by process, Ella’s work is rooted in challenging the perception of pewter and its standing within the precious and craft metal arena. Drawn by the unique making properties of pewter, its complex history within the landscape of metalsmithing and the ongoing dialogue around where contemporary pewter sits within this landscape.
