This weekender – Illustration exhibit & Unplugged live Music

Here at MCDC we are gearing up for one of our busiest weekends of the year, with the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair  taking place at Spinningfields, were this year we will not only will we have a stall showcasing our resident artists & makers work, but we are delighted to be hosting our first ever Spotted Digital Award.

On Thursday the Vogue FNO will be heading to Manchester for the first time and we are excited to be involved in the Manchester Style: the Art, Fashion & Craft Tour which will be starting right here and describes Manchester’s fashion past and its textile future.

As part of this years annual creative celebration that is Manchester Weekender 2013 we will also be hosting Manchester Craft: Illustrated & Unplugged, were we will be introducing a four-day alphabet illustration exhibition and a line-up of local acoustic acts playing throughout Saturday and Sunday. Think it can’t get any better, think again as this is all FREE!

Forming Words Alphabet 

After an overwhelming response to our first ever open-call, 26 artists have been selected to take part in the exclusive ‘Forming Words Alphabet’ exhibition. Each artist was randomly assigned a letter to interpret for the alphabet – you’ll have to come and see us between 10-13 October to see the final results!

The selected artists work in a variety of mediums including illustration, paper sculpture, print, jewellery, textiles, mosaic, stained glass, ceramic, papercuts and collage. The alphabet will showcase work by both emerging and established artists, including recent graduate Tom Bevan and Manchester-based illustrators Tasha Whittle and Emma Reynolds.
