Tufting Workshop
Workshop Leader: Alena Ruth
Saturday 16th August | 11am - 3:30pm

Happy Pride Manchester 2025!
Join Alena Ruth for a live tufting session where you can add your touch to a collaborative rug. Learn the basics of tufting and watch a community rug come to life. This unique activity creates colourful results and is welcoming to all.
Alena Ruth is a textile artist and tutor specialising in rug tufting. Based at Islington Mill in Salford, Manchester, Alena indulges in creating colourful rugs as a self-therapeutic tool. She also runs frequent classes through her business, Manchester Tufting Workshops, facilitating rugmaking to a larger demographic. Through this work with the public, Alena has pioneered ‘Live Tufting’ sessions, where a tufting frame is set up for events and a collaborative rug can be made en masse. This unique activity has provided stunning results in private and public settings, most notably at the Manchester Contemporary (featured at Manchester Art Fair 2023) and We Invented the Weekend festival in 2024.
