Chair of the board Julie Platt retires after almost 9 years as a Trustee of Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
During her tenure, Julie has supported MCAD’s transition to a charity, seen two rounds of successful Arts Council England NPO funding, worked hard to improve relationships with funders and Manchester City Council, helped to navigate the organisation through a global pandemic, and provided much-needed continuity, comfort and support following the loss of our late Director and friend Kate Day.
“I have such a deep appreciation and gratitude for the opportunity I’ve been given with MCAD. To be on such an active, diligent and dedicated board as a first-time trustee has been an honour. I’ve met and worked alongside the most wonderful group of people and had the chance to broaden and hone my own skills beyond expectation.
Exciting things are on the horizon. We’ve been through a lot and, as hard as it’s been, it’s brought us all closer together – personally and professionally. We’ve been forced to reflect; had the chance to focus more on what MCAD means to our local and creative communities, and what role we play in a recovering post-pandemic world.
With a new Creative Director at the helm, with the community, access and environmental consultations to steer our direction and, in time, a new chair with energy and drive, MCAD is perfectly positioned to firmly carve out its own distinct standing in Manchester’s vibrant and burgeoning cultural scene. With anniversaries of both organisation and building providing opportunities for reflection, our aspirations for the future will flourish.” Julie Platt
