Pop-up: Kenneth Uzoigwe

Select Artworks

Monday 24th November

Manchester Craft and Design Centre

Join us in Space2 for a one-day pop-up of select artworks by Nigerian-born visual artist Kenneth Uzoigwe.

“My practice focuses on realism through charcoal and coloured pencil. I am drawn to the human face and form, using them to explore emotion, memory, and identity.

My goal is to show what lies beneath the surface—moments of silence, resilience, and vulnerability that define human experience. I approach each work with patience and precision, building layers of tone and texture to reveal both physical and emotional depth.

My subjects often exist in stillness, yet their presence speaks loudly. Through them, I reflect on my cultural roots, personal journey, and the shared search for meaning that connects us all.”

Image 1. Between Us (N’etiti Anyi) Kenneth Uzoigwe, 2023
Charcoal, graphite, and coloured pencil on paper
Dimensions: 17 x 23 in (approx. 43 x 58 cm)

Between Us (N’etiti Anyi) shows two children standing close in a quiet, steady pose. One supports the other with ease. A small green white green flag rests on the younger child’s cheek and adds a sense of origin and belonging. The drawing reflects how young ones learn to lean on each other early in life and how small signs of home stay present in simple acts of care. The focus stays on posture and closeness.

Image 2. Lines of Time Kenneth Uzoigwe, 2023
Charcoal on paper
17 x 23 in (approx. 43 x 58 cm)

Lines of Time shows the face of an older man with deep folds across his skin and a calm, steady gaze. A wrapped headscarf frames his expression and directs attention to the softness in his eyes. The charcoal marks in the background fall into faint square shapes that break the space without distracting from his presence. The portrait reflects age, memory, and the quiet strength built across a lifetime.
