Manchester Craft and Design Centre

Ever wanted to know what the staff team gets up to when we aren’t chatting to makers, or working hard on our exhibition and events programme?

We work closely with local colleges and universities in our community, developing relationships with students to ensure access to Craft for generations of makers to come. Recently we worked with Manchester Metropolitan University’s Unit X project where BA (Hons) Interior Design students were asked to reimagine a Manchester Craft and Design Centre for the future. We wanted to see how they could improve our Centre to ensure we’re welcoming all of Manchester’s communities.

The students worked incredibly hard and came up with some outstanding ideas, flooring us with their skill, imagination and innovation. In March we were able to see an exhibition of their work at Manchester School of Art, you can see the images from the exhibition below. We are working towards hosting our own exhibition of these ideas in the next academic year so you can see the next generation of talented designers coming through. Please sign up to our regular e-newsletter to keep up to date.

We would like to thank the team at Unit X from Manchester School of Art and Manchester Met Careers Service for helping facilitate such an exciting project, creating a vision for the future of Manchester Craft & Design Centre that is accessible and welcoming for our communities.

Special thanks to Marcus Lord, Simone Ridyard, Jade Wilson, Helen Darnell and Lucy Gannon and of course the students for all their hard work!
