Bokeh Yeah! present: TIMELINE – a Poetry Film event
In association with Comma Film
As our current exhibition ‘Forming Words’ draws to a close, Manchester Craft & Design Centre are very excited to present a new collaboration with DSLR video group Bokeh Yeah!. Over two separate weekends, Bokeh Yeah! will present a selection of poem films, launch a new anthology of Gaia Holmes’ poetry, kick start their new poem film challenge, and run a series of poem film workshops.

Our collaboration launches with a Saturday jam-packed with local publishers, filmmakers and published poets.
The day will kick off a week-long screening programme, and Bokeh Yeah! will launch their nationwide callout for poetry to be donated by publishers and poets. To further add to the poetry goodness, Gaia Holmes will launch her new poetry anthology ‘Lifting the Piano With One Hand’ (Comma Press), with readings and screenings of films based on her work.
Bokeh Yeah! and Comma Film will present a selection of poem films including the best of Comma Film curated by Ra Page with selected adaptations of Gaia Holmes’ poetry.In addition, the best of the recent inaugural Filmpoem Festival, curated by it’s founder and director Alastair Cook, with guest programme by Swoon.

Our programme continues with a week of poetry film screenings at MCDC, and an exclusive workshop on how to make a short film led by Jason Wingard (winner of Virgin Media Shorts 2011 and this year’s judge).

Saturday the 9th of November is your last chance to see our exhibition ‘Forming Words’. In celebration of the wordy-goodness, Bokeh Yeah! present a day of poem films, critique, and poems read by invited guests. To complement this, filmmakers will read and choose their poems and take part in workshops for crew building, concept and storyboard techniques, and planning the shoots.
The deadline for all poem films to be completed is the 3rd April for internal screening at Bokeh Yeah! and public screening the following weekend.

About Bokeh Yeah!:
Bokeh Yeah! is a skill sharing, film school that covers all area of film production, specifically using DSLR cameras.
The group looks into the processes of filmmaking, sharing experience, and camera knowledge. It hosts demonstrations of various kit and techniques, inviting industry professionals to offer advice and guidance. It also showcases films that are being made using DSLRs and co-ordinates challenges to create short films in a variety of genres.
The sessions are free and hosted at Madlab 36-40 Edge Street, Manchester M4 1HN, held on the 1st Thursday of every month from 7pm-9pm.
About Comma Film:
Comma Film is an offshoot of the award-winning Manchester-based publishing house Comma Press. It regularly commissions film adaptations of short literary texts – poems and short stories – published by independent presses across the North of England. Previously commissions have gone on to garner award recognition: Kate Jessop’s film ‘Desires’ based on a poem by Gaia Holmes was shortlisted for the Virgin Media Prize.
