How would you describe the items you produce?
I have made work for private homes all over the world, large and small. Many smaller scale paintings are given as gifts for any occasion including weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. A little moment within a landscape, held on the canvas for the viewer to savour forever.
What are the things that have inspired, and continue to inspire, your work?
I take my inspiration from a passion ignited by a country escape found in the Welsh mountains by my grandparents some 30 years ago. I was raised in the city and the country solace opened my landlocked eyes to the beauty, joy and freedom of nature. It was this feeling of wellbeing that drove my creativity, and I believe the reason that I am drawn to painting landscapes today. Now I live in the foot hills of the Peak District. Every morning be it rain, sleet, snow or shine I walk the dogs across wild country to tend to my horses. This landscape is now an integral part of my being, I carry it with me to my studio where it is expressed into art.
When you are not producing new work, what do you like to spend your time doing and why?
I spend most of my time in the Peaks, hence the content of the majority of my work. Be it hiking the hills with the dogs or hurtling across country on my horse, I am most at home outdoors. I feed my passion for big scapes by soaking up the awesomeness of the highlands of Scotland and the serenity of the Lake District.
If you were asked to describe the experience of visiting Manchester Craft & Design Centre to someone who has yet to come along, what would you tell them?
Bevy of beautiful boutique studios, where you can see the artist at work. Your dream product can be designed for you, by the most friendly people you could wish to meet. Also fab food!!
