Artform/Specialisms: Lighting, Framed Artwork, Jewellery and Accessories
I Share My Studio With: Katherine Lees Ceramics
How would you describe the items you produce?
I design and make wood veneer lighting, artwork and accessories with intricate embroidered surface pattern. A contemporary take on traditional embroidery. My focus is on creating refined, elegant products that will sit happily in a wide variety of interior environments. I can create bespoke pieces, so feel free to get in touch to discuss your specific requirements.
What are the things that have inspired, and continue to inspire, your work
Being based in the Northern Quarter, one of the most diverse and up-and coming areas of Manchester, I’m surrounded by inspiration on a daily basis but mostly I take inspiration from the natural world. My work is organic, either in form, pattern or materials used. A huge inspiration for my recent design development was my 2011 artists residency in Gujurat, India.
When you are not producing new work, what do you like to spend your time doing and why?
The usual; visiting exhibitions, walking in the countryside, travelling, watching films and live music, cooking and doing all of the above with beloved friends and family.
If you were asked to describe the experience of visiting Manchester Craft & Design Centre to someone who has yet to come along, what would you tell them?
Housed in a beautiful restored Victorian fish market among a warren of quirky places, this is the spot to pick up unique work by some talented makers. You will not find a more tranquil craft environment in Manchester, a true hidden gem!
