Here at Manchester Craft & Design Centre we are more aware than ever how not only fantastic our resident artists and makers are, but also of their creative relevance and successes outside of the MCDC organisation. We are delighted to keep you updated and share their fantastic news, achievements and recognitions with you.

Today we are ecstatic to share with you some of the recent news from our very own Lily Greenwood (studio 25)

At the end of last year Lily had her first overseas exhibitions, with an invitation to show at both the Barcelona Showcase held at Gaudi’s Casa Batlló, and the beautiful Oude Kirk church in Amsterdam which dates back to the 1200s. Not only was this a fantastic achievement and an honour showing in Barcelona led to a second exhibition there in the trendy Grazia area, at Untitled BCN gallery.

Lily was also thrilled to be shortlisted for the New Lights Art Prize. New Lights are a fantastic charity promoting young emerging artists based in the North of England. Being shortlisted meant her work is now on show at the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate, and in January the exhibition tours to the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle.

As Lily explains – ‘I was born up in the north east so am excited to be showing work up there for the first time!’

This year was the first time you could find Lily Greenwood on Saatchi Online; this is a fantastic platform for artists to sell work worldwide, make connections with collectors, and form a network with other artists. Saatchi Online is based in Los Angeles and affiliated with the Saatchi Gallery in London. It’s director is Rebecca Wilson who launched and curates New Sensations at the Saatchi Gallery.

Lily says – ‘I was really happy to be contacted directly by Rebecca encouraging me with my work, and she has kindly included my paintings in curated collections of work on the website. I’m amazed that my most popular piece on there now has received around 15,000 viewings, and I hope to list new works on there as soon as possible.’

On the back of this Lily has also found out that one of her paintings will now be making it’s way to Las Veags!
