Ceramics by Verity Howard“I am fascinated by people’s everyday lives and activities. I am interested in capturing snapshots that convey a sense of stillness, absence of presence and being the outsider looking in. I aim to translate this interest through ceramic forms which convey the volume and depth of darkness.”

Verity Howard is the 2015 winner of our MMU Graduate Solo Exhibition Award.

Now in its tenth year, the Award offers one talented graduate a sponsored award package which includes bespoke professional development support, extensive promotion through our online media and a solo exhibition here at MCDC a year after graduation.

Ceramics by Verity HowardThe mentoring and career progression opportunities provided by this award make a huge difference to the practice of an emerging talent. Elizabeth Winstanley, our 2013 winner, said, “This opportunity has been a real lifeline for me, leaving university is a hugely daunting prospect but winning the award not only meant that I gained a solo exhibition with a huge amount of exposure, it also meant that my work flourished through new collaborative projects.”

Verity’s exhibition at MCDC will launch on 20 February 2016 with a 10 year celebration of the MMU Award and run until 20 June 2016. Watch this space for more information later in the year.

Our 2014 Award winner, Rosie Booth, is exhibiting at MCDC until 30 August. Find out more here…
