The government has allowed the opening of non-essential retail from 15 June. MCDC, however, has made the decision that it is not yet feasible for us to re-open to the public, as we have had to take into consideration the various health and family needs of a diverse number of small businesses that call us home,  the ongoing situation with Covid-19 in the North West and the fact that we are also home to exhibitions, a cafe and workshops so are not an exclusively retail destination.

Our plan is to work towards re-opening in a phased and managed manner that minimises disruption to everyone that uses the Centre and maximises safety. From the 1st of July we’re really pleased that the Centre will be open again for our makers to use their studios, with access to customers through an appointment-only system. Appointments for collection of work and consultations regarding commissions etc. will be able to be made directly with the relevant makers.

The Centre is implementing a Covid-secure policy to ensure we can provide the safest possible experience for staff, makers and customers in line with government Covid-secure guidelines. This consists of daily professional cleaning of the Centre (with specific attention to all touch-point surfaces), sanitisation stations, and making sure that all areas of the business adhere to strict social distancing guidelines.

Our fabulous Oak St Cafe will also be opening for a collection-only and pre-order service in early July, with further details on these plans to be announced soon.

Most of our makers remain open for business, whether they are working from home or at the Centre, so please do contact them if you have an enquiry. A full list of contact details is available here.

You can also contact the MCDC team directly if you need any help with getting in touch with specific makers as we’d be happy to help.

Email [email protected] or call us on, 07591 423 580 or on 0161 832 4274 (Monday to Friday, 11am – 4pm). You can also message us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

We are monitoring the changing situation carefully and will let you know once we are able to confirm a fixed date for public re-opening.

Thank you for your ongoing support for local independent makers and our unique venue throughout these challenging times – it really does mean the world to us.
