Here at Manchester Craft & Design Centre we love Christmas and we know you do too. So this festive season we are going bigger, better and more sparkly than ever before! As this year we transform our historic covered market building into a winter wonderland, with a programme of magical events, exhibitions and workshops running throughout the winter months.

Alongside this you will be able to enjoy our boutique shopping experience 7 days a week, with 18 independent studios selling handmade items from ceramics, jewellery to textiles, you are sure to find that perfect memorable gift. And for all you workaholics out there, don’t panic this year we will also be open for additional of late night shopping on Thursdays, plus Oak Street Cafe Bar will be here to tempting you with a host of tasty yuletide treats and Christmassy tipples to keep you in the jolly spirit.

So we invite you to come over and soak up the joyous atmosphere, because we have Christmas All Wrapped Up!

Alinah Azadeh – ‘The Gifts of the Departed’

November 23rd (1-5pm)

Music provided by Manchester String Quartet 

‘The Gifts of the Departed’ exhibition features a selection of Azadeh’s wrapped objects from 2009-2013. Azadeh is enchanted by the idea of textile as a metaphor for text and language, which is a dominant part of her work. Her creative practice is rooted in communal rituals and processes of wrapping and exchanging gifts. Azadeh describes her live work and installations as a space for self-reflection in response to the central themes of human experience.

Manchester School of Jewellery – Jewellery Taster Session

November 15th  — December 15th

Manchester School of Jewellery offers one day and short courses for enthusiastic beginners to skilled makers looking to broaden their knowledge in a variety of jewellery techniques and allied skills.

MSJ are currently offering ‘jewellery taster workshops’ covering basic jewellery making skills, currently held in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre in the creative Northern Quarter. Participants will each be taught a variety of different skills and will have completed a piece of wearable jewellery by the end of the session.

Dates:-
Friday 15th November 2013
Saturday 14th or Sunday 15th December 2013

The cost for a jewellery taster workshop is £20.00

Mosaic Workshop with Vivien Hamilton Mosaics

November 19th — November 30th

November Mosaic Workshops – Salvaging The Beautiful

MAKE YOUR OWN MOSAIC WALL PIECE TO TAKE AWAY

Either Tuesday 19th November 10am-3pm £55 or Saturday 30th November 12-5pm £55

Led by Mosaic Artist, Vivien Hamilton, in these one day workshops participants will work in a small group to learn or improve their understanding of working with mosaics.

Suitable for all abilities
All tools and equipment will be provided.
Tea, coffee and home made cake are also provided during the course.

Participants are also advised to bring a packed lunch or eat in the Craft Centre’s Oak Street Cafe Bar or surrounding area.At the end of the course, participants will take away a beautiful mosaic piece to grout in their own time. (Full demonstration and equipment provided)
