Textile Drawing Master Class with Debbie Smyth

Threadbare depicts a typical Northern Quarter street Manchester through a stretched network of threads between accurately plotted pins.

The artist, Debbie Smyth will be leading 2 Master Classes during the exhibition, delivering textile drawing skills and techniques. As a participant, you will complete the full creative process to make your own threaded drawing: from drawing in Manchester to plotting the pins and threading your sketch.

Resin Jewellery Making

Saturday 10th July

In this two part session you will learn how to make individual pieces of resin jewellery incorporating your own found objects. We will explore different ways of creating resin pieces which will permanently capture those small items you just can't bear to part with. At the first workshop we will decide on the shape and type of jewellery you would like to make and the ways in which your piece can be arranged to create a stunning piece of jewellery. Pieces will then be set in the resin and left to dry. At the next workshop we will work on finishing your jewellery piece ready for you to take home. You will leave the sessions with a pendant, a ring and a brooch.
All materials will be provided, however please bring along any items that you feel could be set into the resin to make an interesting piece of jewellery.

Felt Flower Brooch Making

Saturday 14th August and Saturday 21st August

A fantastic two week course - and an introduction to making sheets of felt, layering up colours and creating patterns. Ideal for beginners and intermediates, you will make flat sheets of colourful felted wool which we will then cut, layer up and stitch into to create a fabulous unique brooch. The first session will focus on felting techniques and selection of colours and pattern making, you will then return the following week when the felt has dried to complete your own jewellery piece.

*Please note the techniques learnt will be slightly different to the Felt Bead Necklace.

Reclaimed Jewellery Making

Bring your own items from home – photocopied images, pieces of material, found objects or anything just lying around in drawer that has no purpose but you cannot bear to part with! You can give it a purpose by incorporating it into a brooch. Samples will be shown and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the session. You will learn how to produce a simple brooch back out of silver plated wire, or if preferred, pre-made backs will be provided. A great opportunity to get crafty and play around with a variety of materials! All materials will be provided however please bring along some personal items that you would like to add to your finished piece.

Wallpaper Jewellery Making

A creative look at recycling scraps of beautiful paper! Using old pieces of wallpaper, homemade and texture papers we will create layered brooches and pendants. Using pre cut wooden shapes we will layer paper, lace, ribbons, buttons to finalise your beautiful piece of jewellery! Bring along your own paper or plenty of choice will be provided.

SHORT & SWEET SEWING SESSION

Resident Textile Designer Susan Kane, will show you some simple, yet effective, hand-applique techniques to embellish your clothes or anything else you fancy.
Spend a morning transforming an item into something unique and personal with some nifty stitchery.

Although all materials will be provided, the idea of this workshop is to bring along a small item of clothing/soft furnishing -(cardigan, skirt, beanie hat or jacket)- and any personal scraps of fabric, buttons etc that you would like to use.
