Happy New Year from all at Manchester Craft & Design Centre. 2012 is a special year for us, as MCDC reaches the big three-zero! From it's humble beginnings in 1982 to becoming an award-winning centre for craft retail and development, we want you to join us throughout the year to help us celebrate what's great about the Centre.

On The Wire: Re-silicone by Lucy Fergus

Lucy Fergus has adorned our humble Wire with hundreds of orange silicone ovals. The Re-silicone installation is made from multiple garlands, each made up of recycled hairbrush silicone ovals. Lucy has looped and hung individual garlands on-site, responding to the space here at Manchester Craft and Design Centre. Read on...

MCDC wins Best Independent Retailer Award
MCDC has been awarded the prestigious Independent Tourism Retailer of the Year award at this years Manchester Tourism Awards. The event was held at the Lowry Hotel and was organised by Marketing Manchester. Were delighted at this fantastic endorsement of our work, accolade for the quality of our tenants' products and our warm visitor welcome.
In a coup for North West craft our partners the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair won Small Tourism Event of the Year, and the Craft Shop at the Royal Exchange were highly commended.

November saw the launch of our new fashion-forward exhibition, 'Manchester's Fitters'. Manchester has long been home of original brands and innovative design, and Manchester's Fitters will showcase a small but beautifully formed overview of the city's finest fashion creatives.

Anti Sculptures by Laura Jane Blake
3rd March - 21st April 2012
Laura Jane Blake brings form to life, via the construction and animation of textile sculptures. She takes moments of movement from natural and industrial landscape and repeatedly brings them to the viewers attention, aiming to make us acutely aware of the fantastic in our daily environments.

MCDC Tenants Awarded at he 2011 Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair
The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair took place this October, providing an opportunity to buy from over 140 selected designer makers including a number of MCDC tenants. We had our own stand too, and we very much enjoyed meeting so many of you over the weekend. More info on this year's exhibitors here.
Andrea Lord, best known as &made (Studio 20a), was awarded Best New Maker and Jane Dzisiewski from Designers Eclectic (Studio 21) was named Best Innovative Maker for her layered resin jewellery.
Well deserved, even if we do say so ourselves!
