Studio Application: Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

We are actively seeking makers who have the following qualities:

  • Genuine skill and ambition
  • Create unique or limited batch-work (small quantities)
  • Are continually striving for excellence and individuality

We are also most interested in makers working in materials including (but not limited by) silver and other metalwork, ceramics, textiles, wood (including furniture), glass, millinery and paper.

We are not currently looking to add more jewellery makers to the Centre.

We do not accept applications from those working in the fields of fine art, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture or traditional and heritage craftwork or design that seeks to restore or reproduce. Applications will only be considered from craft or design businesses.

Our eligibility criteria is based on our Artistic Policy, which you can download here.

What is the difference between Resident and Affiliate Maker?

Resident Makers are the legal tenants of Manchester Craft & Design Centre’s studios. They have full responsibility for their studio space.

Affiliate Makers do not have the same level of responsibility as Resident Makers, and agreements regarding cost/ studio space/ studio cover are organised by the Resident Maker in your studio. If you are interested in becoming an Affiliate Maker, please indicate this in your expression of interest.
