News from Spotted graduate Charlie Manthorp

by Agathe

At Manchester Craft & Design Centre we like to see what our Spotted graduate makers are doing after finishing their courses.

Ceramicist Charlie Manthorp has been involved in a number of projects since we spotted him at the MMU degree show in June, including Minecrafting Ceramic Narratives, a summer school delivered by artist Gemma Latham.

“We were working with year 8-9 pupils creating stories on Minecraft before printing images of them onto ceramics. It was great!!”

He’s also been delivering workshops at Plant Noma – Manchester’s new open design studio – where, alongside fellow MMU graduate Sophie Boobyer, he has launched a series of ceramics courses. Play with Clay offers anything from weekly sessions to day long crash courses. Find out more here…

You can meet Charlie and Sophie on the Plant stand at Sadler’s Yard Summer Jam on September 23rd and at GNCCF in October.

Charlie has also been accepted to deliver a workshop for Make:Shift:Do a Crafts Council initiative focused on innovation. The workshop – Mud Hack – will challenge participants to explore and innovate with clay and takes place on October 28th.

Finally, Charlie’s work will be on show at the Bluecoat Display Centre in 2018 as part of Journeys in Mind, an exhibition which explores experiences of mental health and the mind from the perspective of designer-makers. Find out more here…

Can’t get enough of Charlie? He spoke to Potclays after winning one of their 2017 Graduate Awards and you can read the full interview here…
