Artform/Specialisms: Designer maker of contemporary jewellery

I Share My Studio With: Lee Page Hanson

Invited Makers : Caroline Shaw, Zincwhite, Hannah Dodd and Reaction Jewellery

How would you describe the items you produce?
I predominately work in silver; this is because it is beautiful, popular and affordable.

I also work in gold and platinum, these metals tend to be more for bespoke work like wedding, engagement and divorce rings. Visit my wedding, engagement and divorce rings page here to see my commissions.

A huge range of people like and buy my work – from gay couples wanting something for their civil ceremony to weddings and engagements for the young and old. My customers tend to be those who like something a little bit unique & different in their jewellery.

What are the things that have inspired, and continue to inspire, your work?
The client is usually the person with the inspiration, they will come to me to help them realise their jewellery dreams and I will bring them to life. The client can usually can give me a starting point and I’ll then sketch out and describe the possibilities open to them. Quite often a customer will have a piece of heirloom jewellery or hand me down treasures that I can transform into something more wearable and contemporary. I have a commissions page on my website highlighting some recent work.

When you are not producing new work, what do you like to spend your time doing and why?
I have a young family, so most of my time is spent adventuring with them.

If you were asked to describe the experience of visiting Manchester Craft & Design Centre to someone who has yet to come along, what would you tell them?
Come and visit us if you want to see unique and unusual work that is hand made and creatively produced. Manchester Craft & Design Centre is a relaxing shopping experience where you can meet the makers, talk to them about your ideas and have something bespoke made.
