Lets get Pewtering!
Join Ella for a day of Experimental Spoon Forging Workshop to try Pewtersmithing and Metalwork with a playful, experimental approach. Ella will guide you throughout the day as you design your spoon before moving onto forging, doming, riveting and soldering. These techniques can then be applied so you can create your own unique Utensil using a combination of Pewter, wire, found and vintage objects.
During the day we will be asking questions such as what makes a spoon? what role is a spoon for? does it have to be functional? can a spoon be flat? what can we add or take away to limit or enhance it? can it be called a spoon if it doesn’t hold anything We will be taking inspiration from each others creations, experiments and group thought process to steer our own experimental journey. Spoons come in all shapes and sizes for all sorts of purposes, what sort of spoon will you make?
Lead-free Pewter is a malleable metal which is food safe. Ella is a Pewter enthusiast based here at Manchester Craft & Design Centre in studio 10 and welcomes any questions about the workshop.
Please note that lunch is not provided. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, explore the many local eateries in the Northern Quarter, or join us at the lovely Oak Street Cafe Bar on-site.
