OPENED OCTOBER 2009
Quite Contrary Designs was established in 2006 by Mary Shears. After gaining a first class degree in Fine Art for University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2001, she returned to Manchester and was determined to pursue a career that would use her creativity. After spending a period of time being a community artist and working for a small community arts organisation, she started trading on the Fashion Market, Tib st, Manchester, selling a range of fashion accessories.
From this small beginning over the years the business had grown to incorporate her husband Dave also a graduate in Fine Art, and led to them establishing a studio in the Craft Centre in late 2009, as well as continuing to trade on the Fashion Market every Saturday and other seasonal markets in Manchester.
All their range is designed and produced by the two of them in their craft centre studio or their home based workshop, the range of products include: bespoke handbags in tweed and wools lined with vintage floral cottons, brooches and key rings constructed from vintage buttons, leather brooches, key rings and compact mirror pouches and hand appliquéd cushions.
All their products reflect their desire to create unique fashion
accessories that give their owners a functional and practical
product that adds style and individuality to their wardrobe.
Most of all they hope with the Quite Contrary Designs brand to sew
a little happiness....
