Studios » Nocturnal (formerly known as The Space)

Studio No(s): 2

Formerly a Manchester College funded project, The Space had long been an incubator for fresh, graduate talent, giving graduates from the Jewellery and Applied Arts course at The Manchester College the opportunity to be Artists in Residence, whilst receiving business support & gaining retail experience at the same time.

Despite the funding no longer being available, one success story from the project is the last group of graduate Artists in Residence, who now occupy the studio and are successfully running their own jewellery businesses, under the umbrella of their new studio name, Nocturnal.

PeculiarDesign

Julia Roy-Williams works predominantly in laser cut, heat shaped and etched acrylics. The versatility of acrylic appeals to Julia and she loves the process of heating and linking plastic to create unusual and unique chains. Her pieces are tactile, come in a rainbow of colours, are light, easy to wear and affordable.

Influences in Julia's work are wide ranging and reflect her love of travel, especially the thrill of a big city where inspiration can be found on every street corner. Chinese woodcut & silhouettes, Art Deco textile design, African Batik print, & Mexican folk art are some of the inspirations for her recent designs.
