For Art, Photography, Design and Style
Artefact is a crusade to bring about a literal revolution; the pursuit of the bibliophile as the new cool, and the book in as much diversity of form and style as is possible. All work is handmade by Moira Walton, a textile artist and photographer. Collaged, one-off pieces represent book pages and are printed onto silks, cottons or paper and hand crafted artists books detail journeys, walks and adventures over many years of travel.
Much of the work is informed by the ordinary stuff of life; people and their stories and talismans, collecting and gathering of the ephemeral detritus of the streets, far and wide. Forming the bigger picture, this is in fact all about the discussion of time; its passing, changing and even its distortion. There is an appealing symmetry to the full circle element of research produced from moments capturing one small piece of time in a lens based image or overheard fragment or engaged conversation.
Moira's aim is to invite the viewer in, to fully immerse the senses and experience each piece in an interactive, visceral way.
"As we move ever forward towards art as experience, the simple handling task of turning a page is an effective non-threatening invitation that ensures the audience enters my hand held works of art - artefacts if you like - in a purely tactile way."
Artefact will ensure an entirely unique addition to your bookcase, coffee table or wall, with commissions gladly accepted for bespoke pieces.
