GIVE IT A BASH! Pewter keyring/jewellery charm making using Cuttlefish casting technique – 1st July 2017
Saturday 8th April 10am- 4pm @ Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
Ella is pleased to introduce a new addition to her GIVE IT A BASH line up which is inspired by her current UTENSiL range.
Join Ella on an experimental spoon workshop to approach Pewtersmithing using a playful, organic making process. The day will revolve around the techniques used to forge, dome and bash a spoon before combining the Pewter form with wire, found objects and vintage tableware to create your own unique piece of tableware.
During the day we will be asking questions such as what is a spoon? What properties does a spoon need? Does it have to be functional? Is it for a specific role? What can we add or take away to limit or enhance it? We will be taking inspiration from each others creations, experiments and group thought process to steer our own experimental journey.
During the day you will be taught and guided by Ella through age old metalwork techniques such as Pewter sheet work, soldering, riveting etc which will enable you to create a truly modern and contemporary finished piece to take home alongside a new set of skills. Ella encourages you to bring along any found objects, second hand objects or materials which we can add to the the Pewter Metalwork to create handles, detail or interest.
Lead-free Pewter is a versatile and 'eco-friendly' metal which looks like Silver, but is very low maintenance, can be used with food, and look super stylish around your home. Ella is an award-winning designer and is based at Manchester Craft & Design Centre. She is passionate about Pewter and can't wait for you to fall in love with it too!
