Biological Atelier: The Context
Amy Congdon uses speculative design work to investigate the implications of engaging with new technologies, such as biotechnology.
The artwork featured in the exhibition – and used in the promotional materials – is Amy’s work, which she uses to provoke debate and discussion into the implications of engaging with these technologies.
The Biological Atelier project was an exploration into what biotechnology will mean for design and fashion in the future. The images therefore, have been altered in post-production to encourage the viewer to consider the implications of using living materials to create our future products and alter our bodies.
For example, in the future, we might not wear shoulder pads, but grow them in different shapes and sizes, with different embellishments.
The models used by Amy to produce her artwork are all healthy; the artistic alterations have changed their appearance.
