Artform/Specialisms: Printmaking and papercutting
Tell us about your work…
Organic, handprinted and personalised gifts for children and babies. My designs are bright, fresh and modern, I don’t believe in using pastel colours! All of the baby clothing is produced ethically and printed in my studio with solvent-free inks. I also produce contemporary prints and papercuts that make wonderful presents for the special people in your life. I print names onto t-shirts and bibs and love drawing new designs based on customers’ favourite animals.
What has inspired, and continues to inspire your work?
Japanese cartoons, Scandinavian textiles, nature and the curious creatures of the world! Simplicity is the key to my aesthetic, I enjoy the challenge of breaking down a drawing to its basic forms and shapes to create striking designs.
When you are not producing new work, what do you like to spend your time doing and why?
Getting away from my computer and riding my bike on the lanes of Cheshire with friends. I also enjoy visiting museums and galleries, going to gigs and drawing as much as possible.
If you were asked to describe the experience of visiting Manchester Craft & Design Centre to someone who has yet to come along, what would you tell them?
A relaxed, beautiful and unique environment. You can find gorgeous handmade gifts for all your family and friends and have the opportunity to talk to the people who make them.
Did You Know… Alongside her practice at MCDC, Nell regularly runs creative workshops, including screenprinting and papercrafts.
