How would you describe the items you produce?
I create bespoke paintings & cards featuring gold reflections, in oil & bronze. My collections are perfect as gifts for weddings, anniversaries, to celebrate new lives & old friendships… or to complete & compliment a decorating scheme at home.
What are the things that have inspired, and continue to inspire, your work?
The ‘sunshine after the rain’ theory inspires me; the little things in nature that surprise us when we least expect to lift us each day. The things that have a profound effect on our outlook; a surprise ray of sunlight across a landscape, the breeze carrying dandelions seeds to start a new journey elsewhere, or simply a combination of colours that jog a special memory or feeling, or carry us to a different time & place.
I sometimes work directly from photographs to recreate specific images, but the brush techniques I use with my ‘gold dust’ combined with etching through layers of paint often takes on its own path & happy accidents occur!
When you are not producing new work, what do you like to spend your time doing and why?
I love being outdoors, going for a run in the rain, listening to live music, spending time with family & visiting my sister up in the Scottish hills.
If you were asked to describe the experience of visiting Manchester Craft and Design Centre to someone who has yet to come along, what would you tell them?
Retreat & relax! Head away from the city crowds to socialise and eat in a calm environment at Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
