Jewellery Workshops

Make a Link – 24 Jan – 2-4pm – drop in – free for all ages
On the launch Saturday of Horror Vacui there will be a free creative workshop session available for both adults and children. This event will be lead by Zoe James (metalsmith) and Nicola Karwat (jewellery designer). Visitors will be able to produce a link for a chain that will be eventually be displayed around the area of the exhibition in the Centre,and added to during the course of the exhibition.There will be a wide range of materials that can be used to create whatever shape, size or coloured link desired. Some samples and instructions will be provided for inspiration. After making your links, you may also wish to have a go at creating some basic jewellery items to take away with you.
Earring, Ring & Bangle Making (Multimedia Jewellery)
7 Feb – 10.30am – 12.30pm - £5 – adults
only
Explore different ways of manipulating and adding materials together to create items of multimedia jewellery. You will be shown examples of other practitioners' work and images from creative books for inspiration. We will provide the ready-made plated silver earring hooks and brass ring and bangle shanks. Boxes will also be provided to take jewellery home.
Brooch Making (Reclaimed Jewellery)
21 Feb – 10.30am – 12.30pm - £5 – adults

Bring in your own items from home - photocopied images, pieces of material, found objects or anything just lying around in drawers that has no purpose but you cannot bear to part with! You can give it a purpose by incorporating it into a brooch. Samples will be shown and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the session. You will learn how to produce a simple brooch back out of wire, or if preferred, pre- made backs will be provided also. Boxes will be provided to take jewellery home.
Chain Making (Joining Techniques)
28 Feb – 10.30am – 12.30pm - £5 – adults
only
You will create a multimedia chain from a range of materials, focusing on different methods of joining each individual link together. Chain samples will be provided so that you can get some inspiration and different joining techniques will be shown. These chains can be taken home.
