GROUP VISITS POLICY

Here at Manchester Craft & Design Centre, we are committed to inspiring and supporting young creative people. We welcome self-guided visits and hope that groups can benefit from seeing creative people at work in the industry.

We also offer small group tours by our resident artists for a fee and plan to develop some free downloadable learning resources in the near future. These resources will help learners, from Key Stage 3 onwards, engage with the space and generate ideas for innovative craftworks.

Manchester Craft & Design Centre is an incubator for small businesses and a retail venue, as well as a creative institution, which offers exhibition and learning programmes. This means that the resident artists primary objective is to sell work. They need to be able to sell and talk to customers during your visit. We have put together guidelines for visiting groups to follow, which ensure our artists can function as businesses whilst youre here.

1.    Please break large groups down whilst at the centre, preferably into groups no larger than 15.

2.    Group members must be supervised and should avoid entering the individual studios in large groups maximum of 2 or 3 at a time.

3.    No photography is allowed without the permission of the artist for copyright reasons.

4.    Please be aware of public access by not blocking stairwells / entrances to studios etc.

5.    Please ask the permission of the studio before doing direct observational drawings of the work

6.    Please also be aware that participants should respect the work in the studios, being sure not to over or carelessly handle them.

Please Note:

·      The trip organiser is responsible for Health & Safety risk assessments and supervision of students in the Centre.

·      If you are visiting with a large group then it may be possible to split them between the Centre and other local venues e.g. the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester Art Gallery.

·      Please give us 2 weeks notice of your visit, to avoid group clashes.

For tour information and to give notification of your visit, please contact the Management Office.
